5-Boomer Friday

The latest from PE Teacher and author

David Carney

Greetings PE Nation,

I hope you are doing well. Kindergarten is a little hectic but I know it gets better! Remember to model, model, model instruction. Be sure to check out the new episodes on my podcast, including lessons from our cruise and creating an alter ego in PE. Remember, this is the format for the newsletter:

1-A tip, game or strategy for teaching

2-A Book I'm reading or a quote I came across

3-A podcast or documentary I think is amazing

4-An awesome thing I've seen or heard or a current obsession of mine

5-A question to ponder or respond to

I hope you enjoy!

Dave

1-Teaching Strategy

Jigsaw is one of the best cooperative learning PE strategies. It fosters teamwork, communication and creativity. I put out a video of my jigsaw cards. Check it out!

2-Book I'm reading

"Thinkertoys" is a book I've heard about for years. I finally purchased it a year ago. It's full of exercises and strategies that will change the way you look at problems and solutions. It also stimulates creativity and new ways of thinking. I love it!

3-Documentary to check out

I recently watched "Skywalkers: A love Story" on Netfix. It was about two people who fell in love doing one of the most dangerous things I've ever seen: climbing tall structures and taking pictures of themselves. Trust me, it's fantastic!

4-Awesome thing I've seen or heard

Although I grew up a Montreal Expos, then NY Mets fan, Greg Maddux of the Atlanta Braves was always my favorite pitcher. He was so much fun to watch. Here's a short video on how he called his own pitches. Enjoy!

5-Questions to ponder

I haven't done interviews in a while, but I love hearing about new ideas and what's going on in the PE world. Anyone want to share? Sign up to be a guest on the show!

I hope you've enjoyed this 5-Boomer Friday. Let me know how I can make it more beneficial for you in the future.

5-Boomer Friday The latest from PE Teacher and author David Carney Greetings PE Nation, I hope you are doing well. The Florida weather has given us some consistency problems, especially with kindergarten. We're off the entire week putting up shutters and preparing for the worst (hoping and praying for the best). Growing up in Buffalo, NY, we had serious snow days, but this is crazy! Be sure to check out my new and older podcast episodes, including gamification, large group strategies,...

5-Boomer Friday!!!

5-Boomer Friday The latest from PE Teacher and author David Carney Greetings PE Nation, I hope you are doing well. The heat index in Florida has been absolutely hurting demolishing my plans for my students. We can't be outside when it hits 104 degrees, which is almost every day. That means a lot of inside instruction for my 3rd grade and kindergarten classes. That means either in the media center or inside their classrooms. It's not a great situation, but we make the best of it for our...
